Coffeepunk - Red Rocket Coffee March 17 2012
I walked up the Danforth looking for a Library after hitting Dora Keogh for ST. Patrick day brunch. After returning my book to the Coxwell Library I found Red Rocket Coffee. I had been to their former location in down on Queen east. It was a bit of a surprise to find them up on the Danforth. The new shop is set up much more nicely and is a fairly decent cafe. Unfortunately I missed out on the shamrock cupcakes. My Moonlander coffee made up for it. It was basically a caramel latte and it was brilliant. Red Rocket Coffee is a few blocks East of Greenwood station and well worth the trip out there.

Chronic Mastication March 7 2012
Having some brown banana’s to me comes with two implications. One baking something or the other winging them at passers by. To do this you slightly open the banana and toss not quite at a unknowing person but near them. So it splatters near them. Considering I know longer live in a high rise I decided to go with the baking option. Slightly modifying my banana bread recipe and mixing in some Black Oak Nutcracker Porter my dark chocolate banana muffins turned out quite well. The beer was a nice addition to change the taste a little bit. Once I get baking I tend to do a few things at once.

As the mess is already happening and will not be much bigger with two types of muffins rather than one. My next muffin was a bit more of an experiment. I’ve never made carrot anything so spent grain carrot muffins was a bit of an adventure. Which I then complicated by deciding they needed caramel in them. The Caramel was made with the remainder of the nutcracker porter from the banana muffins. Making a dark rich caramel that fully complimented the carrot muffins with the fluffy soft body and long stands of carrot throughout.

Coffeepunk - Indie Coffee Passport December 4 2011

Today’s indie coffee journey took us to a coffee spot I’ve long been familiar with. Located at 30 St. Andrew st. in the fabled Kennsington market. I have been a patron on Moonbean Coffee Co. for many years. With a full array of fair trade coffee and teas as well as cakes and other baked treats. Moonbean as been a a staple in my Toronto Cafe history. I’ve long done my grocery shopping in the market and most often those trips ended with a coffee from Moonbean. Todays drink of choices was a chilled caramel latte which was fantastic for taking the edge off some late afternoon Christmas shopping.
