Fan Expo August 26 2012
Being a big comic nerd it’s a bit weird that I’ve not been to a convention or expo before. As with most things I’m interested in I prefer to experience them my own way. For some people I imagine going to a Con. is a matter of course. I’m generally not that interested in how other people look at things I like, so hanging out in a big group of fans didn’t really occur to me as something to do. On the other hand I am a curious monkey and it could be fun wandering, taking photos and possibly seeing a few actors and performers.
I did actually give some thought to dressing up. Cosplaying one of my favourite characters. Had it been November I might have. Being August, I went with using a character for fashion inspiration. Booster Gold T, gold sunglasses, gold ring ( which was my Grandfathers) and yellow and blue sneakers.

Suitably attired I found my companion and went down to the Metro Convention Centre to check out Fan Expo.

It was an interesting space. Artist alleys. A section of independent artists who have worked on different comics and books alongside crafts and clothing sellers. Giant t-shirt booths.

Lego and other toy and video game companies set up displays and demos where you could try the new products. A good size area where you could meet actors and other performers. Unfortunately it was rather pricey to get autographs but it was really cool to see Levar Burton , Alan Tyduk and John Barrowman all at the same time.

Through the middle of the floor were venders selling clothes, toys, artefacts, books and all manner of trinkets. There were a few people cosplaying. Some were wearing store bought costumes. Others sewed and constructed their own. Link from Zelda. A bunch of female Batman characters and few other characters wandered about. I thought there would be more of them. Perhaps the heat quelled some of the dressing up.

It was an entertaining way to spend the day. I would have had a better time had my camera not died.
