TBL - Game Night at Black Oak May 16 2013
Black Oak Brewing Co’s game night continues to be a pleasant midweek diversion. I had my fingers crossed that the Summer Saison would be on tap and happily found it set up along side the delicious Nut Brown and Pale Ale. It was a bit cosier affair this time as compared to the last two game nights where we were scrambling for for tables and hoping we had enough room for everyone....

Chronic Mastication - Dalek Cupcakes May 15 2012
Initially this was going to be my entry for D in the Z to A challenge over April. Time constraints and other issues dissuaded me. The idea was fun though and I was certainly going to get around to it. I’ve not ever decorated my baking before nor have I ever attempted to make my own frosting. First off I baked chocolate cupcakes. They came out pretty well and didn’t really need frosting...

Coffeepunk - Cocoa Latte 671 St. Claire West May...
My friend texted me And asked about good coffee near Bathurst and St. Claire West. After briefly discussing what she meant by good coffee I found her some options. (Some people think Starbucks or even Tim Hortons is good coffee). I’m not very familiar with St. Claire and hadn’t a clue where to go. I took to the internet and found Cocoa Latte at St. Claire West and Christie. Apparently...

TBL - Tis the Saison party at Black Oak May 12...
Tis the Saison. Nice gathering for the release of Black Oak’s spectacular Summer Saison. The Saison was my favourite summer beer last year. Tested in the the hottest weather it was was wonderfully flavourful and refreshing. Other beer on hand was a marmalade cask made with bits of fruit added to a base of the Summer Saison.  Hop Bomb a delicious hoppy casked ale. Both the Black Oak...

A is for Avengers  I’ve been reading comics since I was little and have so often been disappointed by films and tv shows that portray the characters and properties I’ve seen and loved for much of my life. For some reason studios when pumping out a show or film seem ignore most of the source material. Tim Burton’s 1989 take on Batman actually helped dissuade that trend. Though it...

Sometimes you have to do something like invent a new food. I don’t mean just take any other thing and add bacon to it. Which seems to be a thing these days and usually annoys me for the waste of and what ever it was added to. That being said my food invention involves bacon. I made breakfast lasagna. A layer of scrambled eggs. Layer of sautéed peppers and onions followed by a layer of bacon...

C is for Cat One of my favourite George Carlin quotes is “that’s what life is a series of dogs”. You have a dog they don’t live too long then you get the next one. In my estimation the same applies to cats. You have a cat and eventually that cat is gone and you find another one. I’ve had a lot of cats.  My first one was when I was about five or six. I don’t...

TBL- Game Night at Black Oak April 26 2012
Game night at the Black Oak brewery is becoming a fairly popular night out. It’s been great fun chatting with the gamers and serving up libations for their campaigns of world domination and other pursuits the games represent. The beer on hand was the delicious Black Oak Pale ale and nut brown. A beautiful cask of HopBomb pale ale. Which I had a learning experience with when I found out that...

D is for depression More and more as I shrink away from our mainstream media I think that we need a Sesame street for adults. To explain words like depression or migraines. To educate us on the meanings of ailments and dispositions. We take nearly everything with so little interest or understanding throw pills at our ailments and hope or most often pretend they go away. More than that we pretend...
