TBL - Palentines Day February 14 2012
Being Valentines day I decided to spend it doing things I loved. Visiting cool new bars, sharing drinks with the Toronto Beer Lovers. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that Grapefruit Moon would be a traditional pub, with all kinds of wood and such. It was more of a reclaimed diner. unpretentious a nice bar and fridge packed with local craft beer. As I’ve been happy to say with...

Yesterdays Beer February 14 2012
Yesterday I stayed home sick. Managed to do something unpleasant to my back. Stayed in bed late and was thinking I would go into the office only to find I was running a fever as well. So I stayed home rather than run around and risk getting my coworkers sick. After sleeping for awhile, I made dinner and ginger tea. After watching Sherlock Holmes for awhile they came to a scene in a public house....

Sara's Promotion Tour February 10 2012
Sara my long time friend got herself a much deserved promotion. She called me up saying we needed to celebrate. I’d have to say we did quite well for ourselves in that respect. With visiting three venues and a beautiful walk in the snowy night we celebrated Sara’s hard work fairly well. We started out at the Ace down on Roncesvalles. I’d heard a lot about the place and was...

Coffeepunk - Indie Coffee Passport : Thor Espresso...
Fantastically bright with sunlight streaming in, making it quite comfortable with friendly people, meaning both the patrons and the baristas. The Mjolnir or “Thor’s Hammer” , a mix of dolche d’ leche and espresso was gorgeous and a divine mix of flavours. Dolche d’ leche the vanilla syrup used in some of the drinks and the dark chocolate used...

Coffeepunk - Indie Coffee Passport : Big Guys...
Tammy my lovely coffee companion and I started out at the High Park Library and walked down a beautiful snowy Roncesvalles. After getting a bit cold window shopping and checking out vintage clothes and furniture we turned the corner up Queen west to visit Big Guys Little Coffee Shop. A nice foamy latte and a comfy leather chair made it a perfect spot. Eureathral music and the pleasant relaxed...

TBL - Project X February 9 2012
Beer, Hockey and Canadian bacon at Great Lake Brewery. A pretty great edition of Project X. We enjoyed the Toronto Maple leafs playing the Philadelphia Flyers. While drinking some of the experimental beer Great lakes come comes out with for the Project x events. My favourite of the evening being the Pompous Ass casked pale ale. Boasting a really beautiful colour. A dry and citrusy flavour which...

Coffeepunk - Indie Coffee Passport : The One and...
I’ve been to the One and Only a few times over the last few years. The Toronto Beer Lovers has had events there. It’s where I first tried Black Oak Beer and met their brewer and owner. Both of whom I count as friends to this day. I enjoy both the bar and the cafe side and find the place eclectic and pleasant. It usually smells like coffee in the cafe which is excellent. When I was...

Coffeepunk - Bulldog Coffee Eglinton January 4...
Very cool to see Stuart Ross and Bulldog Coffee doing well enough to open a new location up on Eglinton. The original location down by Church and Carlton has been a favourite coffee haunt of mine for years. Well trained baristas made my americano nearly as well as Ross himself. The shinier more streamlined design was well suited for the location much like the minimalistic design down Church street...

Chronic Mastication - Culinarium Beer and Cheese...
Black Oak Brewing Co. Double Chocolate Cherry Stout, goat cheese with dried Cherries. The combination was incredible all the flavours blended so well together. Nice afternoon chat with Tracy from Black Oak Brewing and Kevin from Local Food plus about Local Food Plus and local food certification. Also great to see people dropping in the store and being enthused by the beer and...

Trolling Twitter came in handy as I had no idea there was an upcoming beer festival at the Only cafe. So when I found that the Only teeter about it. I got right on it and asked them about it. They were pretty great and tweeted back a link and I was able to set up events for the Toronto Beer Lovers. Yesterday's Beer January 4 2012
While messing about making porter ginger cookies and drinking Black Oak Nutcracker Porter. I also had a Wellington one off from the summer. Wellington Ce’da Bitter Blue. It was one of the first beers I talked about on Chaos in Moderation. I happened to be out with my family in St. jacobs when I read on Facebook that they only had so many Bitter blue’s left. So we scooted over to the...

Exbeerimentation January 2 2012
Black Oak Brewing Co’s Nutcracker Porter, like the rest of Black Oak’s line up in an extremely drinkable beer that does justice to the beer type. I mixed some in with my evening coffee to great enjoyment. I also included it into a run of ginger cookies. Making nutcracker porter ginger cookies. They didn’t turn out to badly. The extra flour added to compensate for the extra liquid...

Yesterday's Beer February 03 2012
Black oak Nut brown split with coffee, while my experiment with nut brown and espresso didn’t work so well. One of the best things I have ever tasted was coffee with a bit of milk and nut brown mixed at about fifty fifty, even better is having the rest of the bottle to drink afterwards. But, don’t take my word for it. Drink the Beer ! http://blackoakbeer.com/

Yesterday's Beer February 2 2012
I first encountered ChurchKey Brewing about ten years ago at the Toronto Beer Festival. They were one of my first encounters with craft beer. I remember liking it back than and quite liked the NorthHumberland Ale as well. It has a bit of an unrefined edge to it that I had originally come to associate with craft beer. A bit of an earthy texture and flavour. I’m thinking it requires some...

Yesterday's Beer January 30 2012
Even after a whole night of delicious beer and fantastic people at the Black Oak Brewery I was still more than happy to find a Black Oak Pale Ale hiding in the fridge. Crisp, cold, drinkable and as I’ve said before one of the best pale ales out there. But, Don’t take my word for it. Drink the beer !

TBL- Winter Warmer Party at Black Oak Brewing...
Bedlam , it was bedlam. It was pretty incredible. the crowd and hoew positive the event seemed. It just seemed like everyone was having a good time. Tracy did a great job getting the word out. Brock from the Burger bar made up some incredible curry both vegetarian and full of meat. A bunch of us regulars got to try some of the bottles of beer that Ken had collected over the years. We put a nice...
