Chronic Mastication November 13 2011
Ever since my friend shared the recipe with me. Curried Sweet Potato Stew has been a pretty constant staple in my diet. I got in the habit of making a batch and dividing it up so there is always some in the freezer. As soon as I run out I make plans to cook more. I enjoy the whole process from going to the market and finding the ingredients, chopping the vegetables, loosely measuring out spices...

Toronto Beer Lover's : Happy Birthday Black Oak...
This was one of the best times I’ve had in a long time. I ‘ve pretty much pledged myself as a Black Oak bartender for whenever the need arrives. As it was super fun helping Black Oak Brewing Company celebrate it’s eleventh year. With great beer and food and fun live music provided by Brown Sabbath.
It was a good night. The people were all great to be around and it was a...

Toronto Beer Lover's : Project X on the road at...
After the trip to the Abbott for another indie coffee experience we wandered out to Great Lakes Brewings Project X. For this outing Project X took to the road and made it’s home at the Rhino for a Movember charity event. As usual Project X was good fun. Good beer, my favorite being the Burt Renolds reserve Stach Pale Ale. With a bit of citrus in the hoppy flavour I was daydreaming about it...

Coffeepunk Indie Coffee Passport : The Abbott...
This weeks Indie Coffee Passport adventure took us to to the Abbott. Located at 99 Spencer avenue at King and Spencer in Parkdale. Hidden behind a convienience store and right and behind a fire escape this former laundromat is a bit tricky to find. Once you do it’s well worth the discovery. Much like many of the other cafe’s I’ve been to in our beautiful city the Abbott has...

Yesterday's Beer November 10 2011
My general feeling about Mcauslans beer is that it’s best paired with food. Be it the Oatmeal Stout and and warmed hazelnut brownie with ice-cream or any of them with different varieties of cheese. I’ve enjoyed each of the Mcauslan/St. Ambroise beers most when some amazing bit of food was had with it. This time I had a fairly simple dinner. Steamed basmati rice and Ontario farm fresh...

Movember November 8 2011
I have really mixed feeling about Movember. Part of me thinks it’s really stupid. That alot of the participants are douchy and it’s a bit unpleasant to see all these guys wandering around with often terrible facial hair. On the other hand there are alot of people from all walks of life participating. There are parties and events like Great lakes Brewery’s Project x at the Rhino...

Yesterday's Beer November 4 2011
Sometimes their isn’t anything much better in this world than a pint of Guiness. The exception being a pint of Guiness on a fall evening shared with a friend. After seeing my friend offend enjoying a really nice time. I ran home started my Laundry and cracked open the mystery beer. I was kindly given a box of various beer on my birthday. One of them was a silver unlabeled can of beer....

Coffeepunk November 03 2011
I was given the oppourtunity to try McDonald’s coffee. I may have had it in the past but never the ” new” and “improved” coffee. My customer kindly dropped by our shop with a tray of it. So I thought I would give it a shot. It’ s a curious substance. Not exactly offensive nor good. I imagine the best way to describe it is like the bacon bits often found in...

Toronto Beer Lovers at Cask Days October 30 2011
Last night was the seventh annual Cask Days Courtesy of Bar Volo. With something like fifty brewers and more than eighty different cask beers from all across Canada along with six imports from Fullers out of the Uk. It was a pretty fun and interesting event. Held at the Hart house Quadrangle as the event has out grown it’s home at Bar Volo. While a bit chilly out towards the end of the...

Yesterday's Beer October 30 2011
Getting ready to go for a wander on the Saturday before Halloween. I started a couple Great Lakes Crazy Cannuck Pale Ale. As it with the many times I had it over the summer the dry hoppy flavour fit perfectly into my beer needs. Refreshing and pairing well with my dinner which consisted of fresh Jalepeno Cheddar bread , carrots and red peppers picked up from the farmers stalls at St. Lawrence...

Coffeepunk : Indie Coffee Passport - Redline...
While I had a slower start than I had hoped. The plan was to go towards St. Lawrence Market and hit another of the cafe’s long the way. It ended up being a bright beautiful fall day and a great morning to have both a good new coffee experience and to visit the market. Our Coffee choice this time was Redline Coffee and Espresso Bar at 354 Queen st. East. A few steps from Queen east and...
